Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga is a series of set sequences, meticulous and rigorous in its approach. At Yoga Zone we teach a 60-minute version of the Primary Series, which aims at stretching, strengthening and cleansing the body. Breath is integral to Ashtanga Yoga. Outside of vinyasas (sequences characterised by one breath per posture), postures are held for five breaths each. Ujjiai breathing heats the body from the inside, and we encourage the process by heating the room slightly.

Power Vinyasa Yoga is a derivitive of Ashtanga, as are many other branches of yoga. Practicing Ashtanga Yoga regularly will deepen your other yoga classes.
